The Stawamus Chief is a beautiful granite dome located right next to the quaint town of Squamish, British Columbia in Canada. This majestic mountain towers 700 meters above sea level and one can be mesmerized by its breathtaking views. It is considered to be one of the largest granite monoliths in the world! It holds a special spiritual place with the local indigenous people of this area, and many of their traditions revolve around stories of the transformation of this mountain from a longhouse to durable stone. In 1997, the area was preserved and named after the mountain as Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. It contains over five square kilometers and offers maintained hiking trails, a walk-in campground, and a plethora of rock-climbing locations for adrenaline-junkies. Whether you’re into rock climbing or just relaxing with a picnic, the Stawamus Chief is an experience that should not be missed.
