The Äulischlucht near Lichtensteig in Toggenburg is a picturesque and lesser-known gorge that offers a peaceful walk through a dramatic natural landscape. Carved by the Necker River, the gorge features rugged rock formations, moss-covered cliffs, and wooden bridges that create an almost mystical atmosphere.

This spot mostly known by locals and a bit of a hidden gem. So you won't encounter too many tourists there.

The trail through Äulischlucht is well-maintained and takes you along the river, crossing wooden walkways and passing small waterfalls and rock pools. The path winds through a mix of forested sections and open areas, offering plenty of variety along the way. The hike itself is moderate, making it accessible to families and casual walkers.

The cool, shaded gorge is especially refreshing on warm days, making it a great summer destination to bring a picknick or go for a swim.

The trail begins near Lichtensteig, which is easily accessible by car or public transport from St. Gallen or Wil. Parking is available near the starting point, and the route is clearly marked.

Seraina's Tip: Not far from Äulischlucht, you find the Kägi factory store. So make sure to stop by and grab some delicious chocolates. They're free to taste and you can get some serious barains there.
