The cable car rides from Lauterbrunnen to Grütschalp as well as from Mürren to Stechelberg are included in the Swiss Travel Pass!
The hike from Grütschalp to Mürren is a delightful journey through the Swiss Alps, offering panoramic views of iconic peaks like the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. This trail is well-suited for beginners and families, providing a relatively flat and well-maintained path.
Starting from Grütschalp, the trail gently ascends through meadows and forests, closely paralleling the scenic mountain railway line. As you walk, you'll be treated to uninterrupted views of the Lauterbrunnen Valley below and the majestic mountain trio ahead. The path is wide and well-marked, making it accessible for hikers of all levels.
Midway through the hike, you'll pass by Winteregg, a charming spot where you can take a break and enjoy local refreshments. Continuing onward, the trail leads you directly into the car-free village of Mürren, known for its traditional wooden chalets and alpine charm.
Starting Point: Grütschalp Railway Station
Ending Point: Mürren
Distance: Approximately 4.3 kilometers
Duration: About 1 hour and 30 minutes
Elevation Gain: Around 150 meters
Difficulty: Easy
To reach Grütschalp, take the aerial cableway from Lauterbrunnen. The cable car ride offers its own set of stunning vistas and brings you directly to the trailhead at Grütschalp Railway Station. Once you're in Mürren, you can either catch the gondola up to Schilthorn or down to Stechelberg.
Seraina's Tip: You can also do this hike the other way round, starting in Mürren. Or even doing parts of the way with the railway. However, I recommend starting at Grütschalp because you will have the mountains in front of you this way. Otherwise, they'll be in your back.
