Höhematte is a vast green meadow in the center of Interlaken, offering stunning views of the surrounding peaks, including the iconic Jungfrau. Known as the “green lung” of the town, this 14-hectare open space is a favorite spot for visitors to relax, enjoy outdoor activities, and soak in the beauty of the Bernese Oberland.

Originally owned by the Augustinian convent, Höhematte became a public space in the 19th century, when it was preserved as an open meadow for everyone to enjoy. Today, it’s one of Interlaken’s most popular landmarks and a hub for various events and activities.

Höhematte is surrounded by charming streets, hotels, and restaurants, making it a convenient starting point for exploring the town. The meadow itself is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic, with benches and pathways offering plenty of spots to relax. On clear days, paragliders can often be seen landing here, adding to the lively atmosphere.

During winter, Höhematte transforms into a magical space with an ice-skating rink and festive decorations, while summer brings open-air concerts, markets, and other cultural events. It’s a year-round destination that captures the spirit of Interlaken.

Seraina’s Tip: Bring a picnic and enjoy the views from one of the benches scattered across Höhematte.
