This 8-mile Mount Umunhum trail is located in the Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve near New Almaden, California. Although it is considered a moderately challenging route, hikers, runners, and mountain bikers alike are enticed to explore! The trail is mostly shaded by canyon trees with the upper 3 miles beholding an array of coast live oaks, foothill pines, California bays, and Pacific madrones. Every spring unique endemic plant species can be admired from the serpentine bedrock and cliffy outcrops, such as rare flowering plants. Not only is it beautiful, but there’s a rewarding history for learners! Expect fun stories and remarkable views at Mount Umunhum Summit.

Pet-friendly: Dogs are not permitted on the trail or at the summit

Soft adventure: Definitely not, this is a difficult and stenuous hike

Seasonality: All seasons

Fee: None
