The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are one of the most iconic and easily accessible features in Death Valley National Park, California. These sand dunes are a prime example of the unique and diverse landscapes found within the park. They cover an area of approximately 14 square miles (36 square kilometers). Within this vast expanse of dunes, you'll find a variety of shapes and sizes, from small ripples to larger, more prominent dunes.

The dunes are located in the central part of Death Valley National Park, near the Stovepipe Wells Village and are easily accessible from Highway 190, making them a popular destination for visitors exploring the park.

Exploring the dunes on foot is a popular activity. The dunes' gentle slopes make for relatively easy hiking, although walking in deep sand can be more challenging than on solid ground. Popular routes include the short walk to the first prominent dune and longer hikes to explore deeper into the dune field. A choose your own adventure type of hike!
