Mossbrae Falls is a picturesque waterfall located in Dunsmuir, where water cascades down a steep hillside into the Sacramento River. The falls are about 50 feet tall and 175 feet wide, creating a stunning natural spectacle. But it comes with a BIG disclaimer: access to the falls is currently through an illegal hiking trail along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and requires trespassing on private land. Efforts are underway to create a safe and legal trail for visitors to enjoy which we'll link to, but for now, hike at your own risk.

If you are going to hike to this fall, your best bet is to park at the Hedge Creek Falls parking lot, hike the Hedge Creek Falls trail until you get to the river, which you will then have to cross (knee deep water) and then follow the railroad tracks to the falls. The city of Dunsmuir has a proposal to build a legal trail to the falls, which you can donate to here: http://www.ci.dunsmuir.ca.us/mossbrae-falls-trail

The name "Mossbrae" comes from the abundance of moss on the hillside combined with the term "brae," which means a steep bank or hillside. Overall, Mossbrae Falls offers a beautiful and serene spot for nature lovers to explore and appreciate the beauty of the outdoors.
