Pfeiffer Beach is located in the Big Sur region of California and is known for its stunning views, colorful purple sand, and legendary Keyhole Rock. On a limited number of days between December and January each year, photographers flock to the beach to take pictures as the sun sets through the iconic arch-shaped rock. Aside from its famous beauty, Pfeiffer Beach is also known for being one of the few ocean access points within Big Sur. Visitors can walk from the parking lot or take part in the summer shuttle service that runs from the US Forest Service headquarters at Big Sur Station. The beach is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and although swimming is hazardous due to its cold water, strong currents, and rocks, that doesn't keep people from enjoying all that this amazing beach has to offer.
For van lifers and RVers: Unfortunately, RVs, trailers, and camper vans of any kind are prohibited at this day-use area. They won't even allow you to pull in past the gate. So you'll either need to borrow or rent a vehicle to visit here.
