Blackhead Lighthouse is located in the cute seaside town of Whitehead in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

A listed B+ lighthouse that was constructed in 1902. It guides ships into Belfast Lough and marks the northern entrance of the North Channel that separates Northern Ireland from Scotland.

The Blackhead Path that takes you to the lighthouse offers stunning coastal views! From the whitehead car park follow the coastal path north-eastwards to Blackhead, an ancient volcanic plug.

The most dramatic part of the walk is around the catwalk at the base of the headland, where the sea has gouged magnificent sea caves. It’s absolutely incredible!

The route next climbs steep flights of steps to reach the lighthouse. The views are absolutely breathtaking! Across the mouth of Belfast Lough, the Copeland Islands off Donaghadee can be seen. From the lighthouse , the route follows the country road westwards, contouring the slopes of Muldersleigh Hill.

Look out for the World War II fortifications just west of the lighthouse. The looking post on the summit of the hill also dates from the Great War.

📸 Top Travel Tip: Be sure to check out the row of colourful houses at Whitehead Promenade. A great photo opportunity!
