Montalto Estate is one of the most beautiful places to explore in County Down, Northern Ireland. Located just 30mins drive from Newcastle. A 400-acre property and private residence, Montalto Estate dates back to the 1600s and has primarily been a private family home since it was built.

There are 4 walking trails you can take here. All are pretty easy.

  • The History Trail is 2.7km and includes a figure eight of the property.

  • The Woodland Trail is 2.2km and is popular for its unique trees.

  • The Garden Walk is 0.9km. My favourite time to take this walk is in Spring when the flowers are in bloom, it’s so pretty.

  • The Lake Walk is 1.1km and takes you past the Boathouse, woodland, and edge of the lake. This is my favourite walk out if the 4! So be sure to check it out.

📌For a special afternoon in luxury, you can enjoy afternoon tea and a private tour of Montalto House. The guided tour takes you around the 18th century Georgian mansion and fills you in on the history of the place.

You can also stop by the Café at Montalto, all meals are made from locally sourced ingredients! Such a great food spot!

You can also purchase handmade furniture crafted from trees found on Montalto's 400 acre estate.

🍦Top Travel Tip: Furing the summer months of July & August , Granda Gordy's Parlor offers delicious sundaes, desserts, homemade traybakes and scones - accompanied with hot food and drinks - all in a dog-friendly area!

🦋Nearby attractions: I recommend you visit Seaforde Gardens and the tropical butterfly house. It’s only a 15min drive away.

💚 As with any natural area please follow the principles of Leave No Trace, respecting the environment and wildlife.
