Shakespeare and Company is a legendary English-language bookstore in Paris that has been a hub for literary culture since 1951. Founded by George Whitman, it offers new and second-hand books, serves as an antiquarian bookseller, and provides a free reading library open to the public.
The only caveat is that this is a huge tourist hotspot, and in peak season, you now need to queue (for a long time!) to get inside. It has lost some of its charm in the last ten years as a result, but it is still a very special spot.
