Nazaré, Portugal has been known world-wide for its impressive waves since 2011, when surfer Garrett McNamara broke the record for biggest wave ever surfed. These waves have a thrilling and invigorating effect on those who experience them; Andrew Cotton describes it as “realmente único”. Nazaré ’s famous waves are created due to its location at the end of a deep canyon in the Atlantic Ocean and a legend about a hunter saved by a miracle in 1182. Though they symbolize danger and death to many generations of fishermen, today these waves invite tourists from all over the world to come and explore surfing adventures.
