The Castle of Óbidos is an amazing and exceptionally well-preserved medieval castle that stands majestic in the civil parish of Santa Maria, São Pedro e Sobral da Lagoa in the municipality of Óbidos, Portugal. Poised 79 metres above sea level, it's walls are bathed in a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Manueline architectural styles that lend it a truly unique shape. It was once used as a fortress to defend against invaders but has since been converted into a tourist pousada with its original furnishings still intact. It's sure to leave any visitor fascinated!
