The Tetovo Fortress, also known as Baltepe Fortress, is a historic fortress and archaeological site located in the city of Tetovo, North Macedonia. Built in the early 1800s by Abdurrahman Pasha, this grand fortress was equipped with a guest house, a dungeon, a kitchen, a dining hall, and even a fountain! Water did not flow from the fountain until after Abdurrahman left the city due to suspicions of treason. After his departure, the fortress fell into disrepair. In 2008, restoration began on the fortress in order to bring it back to its former glory. This work included both renovation of the fortress and refurbishment of the nearby Church of Saint Athanasius. After many years of hard work, the Tetovo Fortress stands proud once more as a relic of North Macedonia's fascinating history.
