Kenroku-en isn't just Kanazawa's best attraction - it's one of Japan's three most famous gardens for good reason. While it's stunning any time of day, catch it at night when they light it up and it turns into something magical. There's a reason everyone who visits Kanazawa puts this at the top of their list.

The name means "Garden of Six Attributes," and it delivers on all of them - this place has somehow perfected spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, water features, and panoramas all in one space. Even better? They regularly offer free admission days, which is pretty generous for one of Japan's most famous gardens.

What makes it special is how it changes through the seasons - plum and cherry blossoms in spring, that famous yukitsuri (snow-protecting ropes on the trees) in winter, and spectacular autumn colors. But the real magic happens when the sun goes down and they turn on those lights. Seeing those ancient trees and carefully manicured landscapes illuminated at night is something else entirely.
