Trailhead: Mitsutoge Trailhead (bus stop)
Trail Details:
Distance: Approximately 12 km
Elevation Gain: About 800 meters
Difficulty: Moderate
Time Required: 5 hours
Route Description:
The trail starts from the Mitsutoge Trailhead and gradually ascends through a forested path. The trail is well-marked, with gentle sections that become steeper as you get closer to the summit.
About halfway up, you’ll find small clearings with glimpses of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding mountains.
The final push to the summit offers a panoramic view that makes the climb worthwhile. The summit area includes benches where you can rest, take in the stunning scenery, and enjoy a packed lunch.
Begin your descent from Mitsutoge’s summit by following the trail that leads down toward Tenjosan. This section of the trail winds through a beautiful forest with occasional clearings that offer spectacular views of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding landscape.
Continue along the ridge trail until you reach Tenjosan Park. The path here is a bit more gradual, with gentle slopes and a well-trodden route. This part of the hike offers a tranquil experience as it is less crowded, especially compared to the areas near the ropeway.
As you get closer to the Fuji Ropeway, the trail becomes more populated, with more signs of activity and nearby attractions. You’ll eventually arrive at the upper station of the Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, where you can take the ropeway down to the Lake Kawaguchi area or explore nearby viewpoints for additional scenery.
From Arakurayama Option: For those looking for a longer and more challenging hike, consider starting from Arakurayama and taking the connecting trail through Tenjosan to Mitsutoge. This route allows hikers to experience the iconic Chureito Pagoda, the forested paths of Tenjosan, and eventually join the main Mitsutoge trail, providing a comprehensive mountain experience.
