Kiyotsu Gorge in Niigata Prefecture is known for its dramatic rock formations and scenic tunnel with panoramic viewing points, making it a favorite for photographers and Instagrammers alike. The gorge itself is truly stunning, and the uniquely designed tunnel allows visitors to safely admire the views from a series of well-crafted observation areas.
However, my experience had some downsides: the viewing points, while great for capturing those iconic photos, were quite crowded, and lining up to get a picture felt a bit impersonal. I also found it limiting that visitors aren’t allowed to explore the gorge beyond the designated pathways, which made the experience feel very contained. So while it’s undeniably beautiful and worth visiting for the views, Kiyotsu Gorge may feel a bit too structured if you’re hoping for a more adventurous or secluded experience.
