In the snowy Uonuma Basin, a rich tradition of living harmoniously with nature has been passed down through generations, fostering a community that treasures the unique beauty of every season. Nestled in this serene setting at the foot of Mt. Hakkai, Uonuma no Sato was created to share the timeless lifestyle and traditions of Niigata’s “snow country.” Centered around the famous Hakkaisan Sake Brewery, visitors can explore various spots including Hakkaisan Yukimuro (Snow Chamber), which offers free guided tours, showcasing its 1,000 tons of stored snow used to preserve sake and food at a constant 4°C year-round.

In addition to the sake brewery, Uonuma no Sato features a number of local gems like Sobaya Nagamori, a traditional soba restaurant, and Satoya, a confectioner serving delicious sweets, some of which are infused with sake. The site also has a cafe, store, and kitchenware shop, all adding to the authentic rural experience.

Whether you're a sake lover or a foodie, a visit to the tasting room for the renowned Hakkai-san sake and the chance to try sake-infused cakes at the bakery make this an ideal spot to relax and indulge in Niigata's rich culinary culture.
