General Information: I hiked Mt. Myoko in the summer of 2023, and it was both challenging and rewarding. Standing at 2,454 meters, Mt. Myoko is a prominent peak in the Myoko-Togakushi Renzan National Park, often called "Echigo Fuji" for its Fuji-like conical shape. The hike offers stunning panoramic views from the summit, making the effort well worth it. However, be aware that part of the trail has collapsed, making the ascent more difficult and not recommended for beginners.

The trail begins at the Seki Onsen Trailhead and passes through dense forests, alpine meadows, and volcanic rock formations. Some of the highlights along the way include Kurosawa Pond and Koyaike Pond, which offer beautiful reflections of the mountain on clear days. The final stretch to the summit is steep and rugged, requiring careful navigation.

One unique feature of the Seki Onsen area is the outdoor onsen located right at the trailhead—perfect for a post-hike soak. However, be cautious of leeches, especially during the wetter months.

The best time to hike Mt. Myoko is from late spring to early autumn, with optimal conditions typically between July and September. The mountain is also one of Japan's "100 Famous Mountains," making it a popular destination for seasoned hikers.
