A serene alpine lake in the Ashburton Lakes region, Lake Camp is perfect for… you guessed it.. Camping! With its incredible mountain backdrop in the Hakatere Conservation Park, views don’t get better than this. The lake is ideal for kayaking, paddle boarding and swimming, with several walking and biking trails in the local area. It’s the perfect escape for relaxation or to get your nature fix and an outdoor adventure.

While you’re in the area, also visit Lake Clearwater and Lake Emma. There are long-drop toilet facilities near Lake Clearwater, or stay at Lake Camp if you are in a self-contained vehicle. Recommended hikes in the area include Mt Somers.

Remember: Always practise “leave no trace” principles in conservation areas and at campsites.

Personal tip: This is the most incredible location, with the prettiest sunrises and sunsets.

Pronunciation: Hakatere: haa-kaa-teh-reh
