The Whakarewarewa Forest, known as “the Redwoods” are a forest of Californian Coast Redwoods, reaching over 70 metres in height. The incredible forest is a popular spot for walking, mountain biking and horse riding, with lots of different tracks for all abilities and durations.

The Redwoods Tree Walk is a suspended walkway through the beautiful forest canopy. You can also opt for a high-ropes course that includes bridges and zip-lines through the trees.

Remember: Be courteous to other users on the trail. There are shared paths used by mountain bikers, walkers and horse riders. Follow any signage and stay on marked paths.

Personal tip: I highly recommend the Redwoods Tree Walk. This is one of our favourite paid experiences in New Zealand (oddly..) but it is incredibly unique, particularly the nighttime access when the forest is lit up with giant lanterns and there is a laser display - we loved it!

Pronunciation: Whakarewarewa: faa-kaa-reh-waa-reh-waa
