The stunning Routeburn Falls Hut is tucked under cascading waterfalls and perched on the cliff with 360 views of the surrounding valleys, mountain peaks and the Routeburn River. It is located on the Routeburn Track – a Great Walk trail and the Routeburn Falls are a stunning sight. The hike is a gradual ascent through lush beech forests before reaching the picturesque Routeburn Flats. A final, steeper section takes you up to the hut, with the impressive falls at the top.

Starting from the Routeburn carpark near Glenorchy, you can do this walk as a day trip, approximately 3-4 hours return via the same track. It is 500m of elevation gain over approx 10km.

Remember: Always hike within your ability, carry a PLB and let someone know your trip intentions. Check the weather forecast, pack the right gear and stay safe. Check the DOC website for up-to-date information and booking fees. Advance bookings are required for the hut during Great Walk season.

Personal tip: Advance booking is required to stay at the Routeburn Falls Hut during Great Walk season. Book via the DOC website - fees vary between $25pp to $120pp during the Great Walk season.
