Don’t miss the opportunity to visit or photograph this iconic landmark. The Sky Tower is located in the heart of the Auckland CBD and at 328 m tall, is the tallest freestanding structure in the Southern Hemisphere. At night, the Sky Tower is lit up with different colours representing different events throughout the year.
Head up the viewing desk for incredible views of the city, Waitemata Harbour and see as far as the Waitakere Ranges and Bombay Hills to the west and south of the city respectively. Dine at the Orbit 360 revolving restaurant and enjoy the views while you enjoy your meal. For the adventurous, you can also walk around the tower’s outer rim with the SkyWalk experience, or leap off the edge with the SkyJump.
Remember: Parking is expensive, unless you are dining at the Sky Tower. Opt to walk or take public transport to get to this iconic tower!
Personal tip: My personal favourite experience is dining at Orbit 360 during sunset. You get a two-hour dinner reservation, which means two rotations of the city skyline. Time this correctly and you’ll get to experience the city by day, at dusk and by dark. Alternatively, keep an eye out for other events at the Sky Tower - like yoga in the sky!
Pronunciation: Waitemata: wai-teh-maa-taa
Waitakere: wai-taa-keh-reh
