35m wide waterfall in a prehistoric setting

Waterfall

Message from Abigail Hannah

The cascading Marokopa Falls make you feel incredibly small due to their immense size. At 35 metres tall and almost just as wide, they are a force to be reckoned with. Tucked amongst beautiful native bush and flowing into a river, these falls feel like a scene that hasn’t been touched for thousands of years. This is a beautiful spot for photos and worth the detour if you’re a waterfall lover! Park along Te Anga Road and follow the track for 10 minutes until you reach the viewing area.

Note: The track has been damaged in recent weather events, check the DOC website for up-to-date information.

Remember: Do not attempt to cross the stream if it is deep and impassable.

Personal tip: These falls are seriously impressive. As always, waterfalls are at their biggest during the winter months or after rainfall. Stay safe and enjoy!

Pronunciation: Marokopa: maa-raa-koe-paa

Te Anga: teh - aa-ngaa
