A must-visit for anyone visiting the Hawke’s Bay region, Te Mata Peak sits almost 400 m above sea level and is easily accessible with a car park located near the peak. It is an incredibly popular spot with locals and visitors alike due to the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and towards the Pacific Ocean.

There are several lookout points and you can also walk up to the summit.

Remember: Be prepared for all weather. The summit is exposed and can be sunny in summer or windy in winter.

Personal tip: Sunrise and sunset here are beautiful! It’s such an easy destination to visit as you can drive to the summit!

Pronunciation: Te Mata: teh maa-taa
