The Nerja River Walk, also known as Rio Chillar, is a popular excursion in Nerja that offers a refreshing escape into nature. The walk follows the Chillar river, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of flowing water. While the full 8km round trip to Vado de Los Patos can be a bit challenging, reaching the first pool at Los Cahorros is a more manageable 5km option. Remember to wear sturdy, waterproof footwear, pack plenty of water and snacks, and respect the environment by leaving no trace behind. Enjoy the adventure and soak up the stunning scenery along the way!

Our tips!:

Distance: If you want to complete the entire Chillar River route as a hiking enthusiast, all the way to "el Vado de los Patos," you should know that the distance is eight km one way and eight km back (along the same path).

Speed: The pace along the trail is slow. In 80% of the route, you'll walk above the Chillar River. Typically, the water will cover your ankles, though in some years it has reached knee height. Walk with caution! 🚶‍♂️💧

Time: For the route ending at "el Vado de los Patos," the approximate time is about 6-7 hours (round trip), which will vary depending on stops and walking pace along the way.

Schedule: An early departure is recommended to avoid crowds and to ensure the return journey doesn't occur at dusk.

Difficulty: The difficulty of the trail to "el Vado de los Patos" is moderate, requiring no climbing skills; however, it's important to be aware that it's a location with limited access for emergency services. If you're with young children, it's advised not to go all the way to the end (el Vado de los Patos), as you'll find a pool and the famous "cahorros" before that, which are approximately five km one way and five km back. The route is easier up to this point.

Recommended Season: The recommended season is from March to October due to weather and river depth. Nevertheless, it's a natural park and open to everyone year-round.

Environmental Conservation: As it's a natural area, we must preserve it. It's strictly prohibited to litter. Moreover, as responsible hikers, we have a moral obligation to pick up any litter we see, even if it's not ours. Fires are not permitted. The environment must be preserved, so fruits or plants from the surroundings should not be picked. 🌳🌿
