Kuusamo is a town and municipality in Finland known for its winter sports scene, attracting around a million tourists annually. Home to the popular Ruka ski resort, Kuusamo hosts international competitions in ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and Nordic combined. Initially inhabited by the Sami people, Kuusamo saw Finnish settlers take over in the 17th century, leading to its growth as an agricultural hub. Despite setbacks like border closures and wartime evacuations, Kuusamo has evolved into a vibrant tourist destination with a rich history blending nature, sports, and culture.
