At Laugarvatn Fontana visitors can take part in a unique experience—baking bread using geothermal energy. Baked underground for 24 hours, the rye bread, known as hverabrauð, has a subtle sweetness and soft cakey texture. A pot of dough is carefully lowered into geothermally heated sand and left to cook underground until it turns a golden-brown. After it's unearthed, the fragrant bread is spread with locally made butter and topped with smoked trout. This culinary adventure offers visitors a taste of Icelandic history and a chance to try something truly unique!
You do not have to be a guest of the spa to do the tour.
