Þingvellir is located on the rift between two tectonic plates, the Eurasian and the north Atlantic plate. They are drifiting apart by 2cm per year and you can see the effect of this at Þingvellir National Park. To see the top sights in Þingvellir National Park, walk in one of the cracks that are formed because of the rift (Almannagjá), visit Þingvallakirkja church and Öxarárfoss waterfall.

There are a number of parking lots available but the lot most conveniently located is P1. Once you pay the parking fee at one lot, you may travel to the other parking lots without paying again.

The Visitor's Center near P1 has a cafe, toilets and a gift shop and is a good place to get an idea of what Þingvellir National Park has to offer.

Game of Thrones has a few scenes filmed here and nearby P5 is the access point for Silfra snorkeling excursions.

Crowds at Þingvellir National Park are always high as it is an essential stop for guided Golden Circle tours coming from the city. Crowds are the highest around mid-morning.

The paths around Þingvellir National Park are accessible for most all times of the year with well-trodden and maintained paths. However, there are some stairs in areas which may prove challenging for strollers/buggies and wheelchairs.
