Hemlock Falls is a great place to cool down during the summer. It's located a very reasonable drive from Greenville, Asheville, and Atlanta if you're looking for a day trip adventure.

The hike is only about 2 miles roundtrip and I would consider it easy. The water here is chilly but perfect for swimming in, especially during the height of summer.

Clayton isn't too far from here and has some great places to eat and hangout as well.
