Hawksbill Mountain Trail is a great hike for anyone who loves the outdoors. Located in Linville Gorge Wilderness, this iconic hike is one for the books.

The hike itself is not very long but it is an uphill slog to get there. The road to the trail head can be done with 7-8 inches of clearance (think Rav4, Subaru Outback, etc.). I would not attempt this with a normal car as you may cause damage to your under carriage.

Please be mindful of bears while you are in this area and carry bear spray. Linville Gorge Wilderness is a very common area for black bears to hangout. Never leave food unattended here and make noise while you are hiking, especially around dawn and dusk.

There are a few back country sites right next to Hawksbill that would make for a great overnight stay. The views would be incredible at sunrise and I bet you'd have the whole place to yourself. If you chose to do this, make sure to store your food well away from your tent and preferably in a bear bin.
