Sólheimajökull is an incredibly fun and accessible glacier situated on the South Coast of Iceland and just a two-hour drive from Reykjavík. It is one of the most popular spots for visitors to take a glacier hike, and with good reason - it offers spectacular views over the South Coast, walls of ice that can be climbed with an ice axe, and crevasses, ridges and formations across its surface. Trekking up Sólheimajökull is a bucket list experience for those enchanted by the mysteries of glaciers, and those who are lucky enough should make sure to visit soon; due to climate change, it is shrinking rapidly, and may not be around in decades.
