The immense Piazza del Plebiscito is one of the symbols of Naples. The square is enclosed by the Prefecture building and by Palazzo Salerno, by the Royal Palace and by the Church of San Francesco di Paola. In Piazza del Plebiscito the game of crossing it blindfolded or with your eyes closed is well known. You have to walk about 170 meters in a straight line, starting from the door of the Royal Palace. It is said to be an impossible undertaking, because the square has an irregular shape and the slight slope prevents anyone who decides to cross it from continuing straight. According to legend, Queen Margherita granted salvation to the prisoners of the Kingdom if they passed this very difficult test, but no one ever succeeded due to a curse launched by the sovereign herself, which still today does not allow them to make it.
