Castello Doria has been a part of Vernazza's illustrious history for hundreds of years. Built in the 11th century by the Frankish Obertenghi family, this medieval fortress stands atop a rocky promontory overlooking the Italian Riviera's famous Cinque Terre area. The cylindrical tower is the oldest part of the castle, with later additions being made by various families and countries throughout its existence. It also served as an anti-aircraft station during World War II. Although much of its history can be seen in the ruins that remain, it also offers stunning views of the nearby villages and coast, making it an ideal spot for visitors to get a taste of the past while enjoying the present.
