Hirobun Ryokan in Kyoto offers a unique and immersive experience, blending traditional Japanese elegance with modern comfort. This place is the most famous (and best, Imo) kawadoko place in summer, where restaurants are built directly over the river. You can either stay in the ryokan or have lunch or dinner as a day guest - absolutely make sure to make a reservation if you want to experience Kawadoko dining on the river from May to September via their website. Note: the lunch is vegan except for one grilled fish they bring separately and one piece of egg. I have both to my friend who was with me 😅

As a overnight guest, you can enjoy exquisite seasonal cuisine, cozy tatami rooms with futon bedding, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains and river.

Hirobun is also the place that has the nagashi somen which is a unique experience you should try! I would not recommend to wait hours for it though, as it's only 15mins long. But it's super fun if it fits into your itinerary!
