Zpráva od Fuel For The Sole

Big Lonely Doug is a massive Coast Douglas-fir tree chilling in the Gordon River Valley on Vancouver Island, Canada. It has become a symbol of nature conservation in Canada.

This is the 2nd largest Douglas-fir in Canada and is measured to be 66 metres (216 feet) in height and 3.8 metres (12.4 feet) in diameter.

The forest that surrounds Big Lonely Doug was clearcut in 2012 and the dramatic juxtaposition between old growth and second growth forest has become a symbol to protect endangered old-growth forests across British Columbia. It was saved from the lumberjack's axe by a dude named Dennis Cronin who wrapped it in green ribbon with "Leave Tree" written all over it.

You can learn more about the efforts being done by the Ancient Forest Alliance to protect old growth forests and ensure a sustainable second-growth forest industry.

This hike is rated as easy. Length 0.2 km, Elevation 20m, Route Type Out-and-Back.
