Valley of Fire State Park is one of Nevada’s most iconic outdoor destinations, located just an hour northeast of Las Vegas. Known for its dramatic red sandstone formations, ancient petrified trees, and petroglyphs carved by early Indigenous peoples, the park offers incredible scenery, outdoor activities, and unique geological wonders across its 40,000-acre landscape.

Camping Inside the Park

Valley of Fire has two developed campgrounds:

• Atlatl Rock Campground (includes RV hookups)

• Arch Rock Campground (more rustic, tucked into the rocks)

Features:

• All sites are first-come, first-served

• Shaded picnic tables, fire rings, water, restrooms, and showers

• Some RV sites have water and electrical hookups

• Perfect access to sunrise/sunset views and dark skies for stargazing

Fees:

• $20 per night for standard campsites

• +$10 for sites with electric/water hookups

Note: Sites fill quickly in spring and fall—arrive early for the best chance at availability.

Dispersed Camping on Nearby BLM Land

If you’re looking for a quieter, off-grid experience or all park sites are taken, nearby Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land offers free dispersed camping just outside the park.

Location & Access:

• BLM areas are located along Highway 169 east and northeast of the park

• Access via dirt roads; 4WD recommended but not always necessary

Conditions:

• No amenities (bring all water, food, and waste supplies)

• No reservations, no fees

• Maximum stay: 14 consecutive days

Guidelines:

• Follow Leave No Trace principles

• Camp at least 200 feet from roads or water sources

• Fires allowed only in existing rings and if permitted by current restrictions

Additional Info

Park Hours: Sunrise to sunset daily. After dark, only registered campers may remain.
Entry Fee: $10 per vehicle (Nevada residents) / $15 (out-of-state)
Pets: Allowed on leash. Avoid hiking with dogs during summer heat—bring extra water and avoid hot surfaces.
