What is a fly-in safari?
'Fly-in safaris' is a term you will come across a lot when you are researching safaris.
Fly-in safaris are ultimately safaris where you are flown into a park by light aircraft , rather than travelling in a safari truck! This becomes especially important if you are trying to visit far more remote parks in the country that could require days of driving to get there or if visiting during the wet season as some roads can become impassable.
Fly-in safaris are also a popular option during the height of the Great Migration as the herds are usually located in the Northern Serengeti, which will take much longer to reach the region travel to than the Southern Region. There are often a number of air strips located within parks!
Safari companies will usually offer 'fly-in safari' packages. You will usually be flown in to an area or park and stay in one lodge for the duration of your stay. All game drives are usually run from the lodge itself which usually means you will be sharing your game drives with other guests.
