Oslo is a small city, which makes it walkable! You can get pretty much anywhere with a 30 min walk. However, there are some spots where you may want to jump on public transport. Here's all you need to know!

Public transport

In Oslo you can jump on any metro, bus, train or tram using the #Ruter ticket. The best way to get the ticket is by downloading their app. On their app you can add your destination and it will show you the quickest way, the stops you need, and help you buy the right ticket. You can also get tickets at kiosks like Narvesen, 7-11, or at Oslo Central Station.

Almost everything in Oslo is within zone 1. The zone 1 tickets lasts for 60 minutes. If you are on public transport while your ticket runs out, you can still stay on until your spot. However, you can't get off and get on a new bus for example, without then buying a new ticket.

  • Single tickets (60 min) is around 3.5 EUR.

  • 24H tickets are about 11 EUR - So if you plan on travelling on public transport more than three times in one day, this is recommended.

City bikes

As most big, European cities Oslo has a city bike option. To access the bikes, you need their app. There are a two great options if you wanna explore the city by bike:

  • Single trip: For 60 minutes you pay 25NOK (2.2 EUR), and any additional 15 min cost 15NOK (1.3EUR)

  • Explore Oslo: This option lets you use the bike for an unlimited amount of trips of maximum of 180 minutes, within a 72H time period. The ticket is 119NOK (10.5EUR). If a single trip extends 180 minutes, you pay 15NOK (1.3 EUR) per additional 15 min.

Electric scooters

There are several companies that offer electric scooters in Oslo, such as Voi and Bolt. The prices differ depending on the company and how long you use the scooter, and they often offer welcome deals for new users. The best way to find their prices is to download their apps, which you also need to unlock the scooters.

The scooter debate in Norway has been quite hot since the scooters started to appear, and as a result there are many rules you need to know before using a scooter legally. Here are some:

  • It can only be parked in a specific way, so it doesn't get left thrown around the city (the app will guide you to correct parking).

  • It is illegal to ride while under influence of alcohol.

  • You're only allowed one person per scooter.

  • You must be 12 years old to ride.

  • Follow the traffic rules (Electric scooters are defined as motorised vehicles by law.)

  • You are required by law to have a third-party liability insurance to ride them. Do you have an accident on the scooter without this insurance, it can get expensive.

The scooters are a lot of fun, and a fantastic way to explore the city. Just make sure to read the rules first!
