Hands down one of our favorite places in Manitoba. Clearwater Lake is one of the clearest lakes in the world, known for its crystal-blue waters and rugged limestone cliffs. It’s often listed as one of the top 3 clearest freshwater lakes globally. One of the park's highlights is "the caves", actually, fascinating crevices along the shoreline. You can take a short hike to explore this natural wonder, but be sure to stick to the trail for safety and to help protect the environment. With hiking trails, fishing, swimming, and camping options, this park is a must-visit if you love being outdoors! It's definitely one of our favorite places in Manitoba.

Best Things to Do at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

  • Swim in the Crystal-Clear Water
You can see the bottom of the lake 10 meters down! The best swimming spots are at Pioneer Bay, Campers' Cove and Sunset Beaches, all sandy beaches. Pebble Beach is another one of our favorites (though it's not a sandy beach as the names suggests). Now, Clearwater Lake offers other secluded rocky, white and purple sandy beaches that are only accessible by boat. So, if you happen to have a boat, exploring the many shores of Clearwater Lake is a fantastic way to discover hidden beaches. Known as the 'Lake with a Thousand Views,' you’ll be amazed by the variety of beaches Clearwater Lake offerswhite and purple sandy beaches, pebbly shores, golden sand, and rocky coves. Just be sure to bring a navigation map and familiarize yourself with the lake’s layout, as it’s vast, and getting lost in the middle of it—especially with the area’s unpredictable weather—can quickly become a problem.

  • Explore the Caves
The Clearwater Lake Caves, carved by nature over time, are a popular hiking destination. The 300-meter trail leads to unique limestone formations and deep crevices. Just be cautious when exploring the caves and watch your steps!

There are other trails like the Boreal Way Loop that you can also explore, an easy 6 km hike.

  • Fishing: Clearwater Lake is also a prime spot for fishing.

  • Boating & Paddle Boarding: Both are popular activities on the lake.

As with any lake, it's crucial to inspect, clean, drain, and dry all watercraft and equipment to prevent the spread of zebra mussels. Always avoid transporting water between different bodies of water to help protect local ecosystems.

Where to Stay at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

  • Camping: There are Campers Cove and Pioneer Bay campgrounds at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park. You can reserve a yurt at Campers Cove or camp in a tent or RV at Pioneer Bay. Both campgrounds provide access to lakefront camping, fire pits, and picnic areas. You can find maps of the campgrounds here.

  • Stay in The Pas: The town of The Pas is only 20 minutes drive away from Clearwater Lake, offering several hotels, including Andersen Inn and Suites, which we highly recommend.

Where to Eat at Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

If you’re camping, be sure to bring your own food supplies and essentials for cooking your meals. If you need additional snacks or supplies, The town of The Pas is just 20 minutes away from Clearwater Lake Provincial Park. You’ll find grocery stores like No Frills, as well as dining options such as Good Thymes Restaurant. There are also fast-food spots and drive-thrus. One of our favorites cafes was Lyets Cafe, which not only serves great coffee but also has a charming boutique with apparel and accessories.

What to Know Before Visiting Clearwater Lake Provincial Park

  1. Pack Essentials
Stores are 20 minutes away from Clearwater Lake Provincial Park in The Pas

  2. The Lake Stays Cold
Even in summer, the lake remains chilly but refreshing.

  3. Limited Cell Service in Some Areas
Cell service is spotty, and your data might not work at Clearwater Lake. Consider this a forced digital detox – and that’s probably the reason you're there! Be sure to plan ahead if you’re hiking or boating.
