Feria de Mataderos is a weekend market that brings rural traditions into the city. Located in Mataderos neighborhood, it offers a taste of authentic Argentine culture with crafts, traditional cuisine, and folkloric performances. With over 700 stands selling everything from mates to ponchos, this fair is a must-visit for those looking to experience the authentic side of Argentina. Open on Sundays and public holidays from April to December (shutting down for the hot summer months), this is my favorite market in the city.
The main stage features folkloric singers and bands and locals come out to dance dressed in traditional clothing. If you come often enough you'll see the same couple year after year, this is a major part of their life, not a touristy market.
It's far from the center so I recommend taking an Uber to get here. It's also not a neighborhood accustomed to tourists so I don't recommend wandering outside of the market. Check their Instagram page for updated information on each upcoming market every week.
