This cable car travels from the Lauterbrunnen village to Grütschalp at 1487m.
Location: Bahnhofplatz 477, Lauterbrunnen • across the street from Lauterbrunnen train station
Open: daily • usually 6:13 - 20:35 • see current timetable
At the top, you can transfer to the Mürren BLM mountain train the rest of the way to Mürren. Or start hikes like the Mürren Mountain View trail or easy Grütschalp-Winteregg-Mürren walk.
The Grütschalp cable car fits 100 people, runs every 15 mins, and takes 4 mins to reach the top.
💡Tip: To get the best views during the ride, we like to stand next to the windows facing the Lauterbrunnen valley (the left side as you face the mountain).
⚠️Closed 22 April - 2 May 2025 for maintenance. To reach Mürren, use Stechelberg cable car instead.
P.S This cable car will be renovated in 2026, which may mean closures and detours.

Activities
When you exit the cable car at Grütschalp, you have a few options.
Transfer to the Mürren BLM mountain train, which continues your journey across the mountain to Mürren in 12 mins.
Hike to Mürren on the easy obstacle-free Winteregg trail (1h30) or more difficult Mürren Mountain View Trail (2h), both ending in Mürren.
If you want to stay at Grütschalp, there is a bistro with an outdoor terrace, a nice place to enjoy a coffee and snack with a view.
💡Tip: If only some of your group wants to hike, send the non-hikers on the train while the others hike to Mürren on the Mountain View trail. Meet up at Allmendhubel (end of trail) or Mürren for lunch.
