The "Flower Trail" (aka Blumenpfad) trail starts at the Bachalpsee lake and hikes down to the Bort gondola station. It's a nice alternative to walking back the same way you came to the First gondola station.
Trail: moderate • 4.8 km one way • 1h30 • descent 705m
FYI, my pics were taken from our hike at the end of September. From mid June to August, this area is very green with flowers.
It's not a very difficult trail, but you descend a lot of elevation, some on steep switchbacks. So it can be hard on your knees.
Instructions
First ride gondola up to Grindelwald First and hike to Bachalpsee, about 1 hour. See trail info.
Walk to the far side of the first lake and look for trail signs labeled "Blumenpfad" and "Bort". Follow trail down through alpine meadows.
After about 45 mins, you reach a service road which leads to Waldspitz, where you'll find a bus stop for the GrindelwaldBus and Gasthaus Waldspitz which has a restaurant.
To keep walking to Bort, follow the trail sign labeled "Bort" pointing to the footpath descending into the forest.
From Bort, you can ride the gondola down to Grindelwald. Or rent Trottibikes (kick scooters) to ride down to Grindelwald.
Shorter version
The prettiest part of the trail is the first 3.2 km to Waldsptiz, before you start the switchbacks in the forest. Instead of continuing to Bort, you can ride the GrindelwaldBus from Waldspitz down to Grindelwald. See schedule.
FYI, this mountain route on the bus is not free with the Swiss Travel Pass.
