Maitai Bay is a slice of paradise that’s so perfect it almost doesn’t feel real. Honestly, this spot on the Karikari Peninsula in Northland is an absolute 10/10. On a sunny day, it’s the place to be, with crystal-clear, calm waters and soft, golden sand. When I visited, it was around 9:30 in the morning, and I had the entire beach to myself for a good 45 minutes. Swimming in the chilly water while looking around and realizing you’re the only one there? Unreal.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s a DOC campsite right next to the beach, so you can literally wake up to this incredible view every morning. Bonus points for the short walk over to Waikato Bay, which is equally stunning and worth a little wander. Maitai Bay is pure magic, whether you’re camping, swimming, or just soaking it all in.
