The most famous bay of Istro lies about 500 meters east of the village. Here, you’ll find Voulisma Beach, also known as Golden Beach, one of the most stunning beaches in Greece. Frequently featured on postcards of Crete, this beautiful stretch of coastline boasts soft white sand and mesmerizing turquoise waters.
While the beach is well-organized with facilities, some may prefer a more secluded atmosphere. One downside is that occasional sea currents can bring debris to the shore, but on such days, visitors can opt for the smaller beach on the western side of the bay. This alternative beach is well-protected from the wind and offers a quieter, less-developed setting.
Good to know
During the high season, arriving early is essential, as the beach can get crowded, and parking spots fill up quickly. If the main parking area is full, roadside parking is also an option.
