Nachricht von Valeria

The Jewish Ghetto in Bologna, established in 1555 by Pope Paul IV, was located between Via Zamboni and Via Oberdan. The area was enclosed by walls with three entrance gates, restricting access to the Jewish community. Despite being expelled in 1569 and only allowed to return in 1796, traces of the ghetto's layout can still be seen today. The former synagogue on Via dell’Inferno serves as a reminder of the persecution faced by the Jews in Bologna. Guided tours are available through the Jewish Museum of Bologna for those interested in exploring this historical site.

Can you find a Hamsa? Around the ghetto area, you can find several Hamsa signs on the walls - look closely to spot the map of the area inside the symbol, with history and information about different commercial activities carried out inside those buildings back in time! Hamsa was chosen here as it’s a common symbol in the Middle East, representing good luck and prosperity, and is widely used by the Jewish and Muslim communities all around the world. This quiz should be easier than the previous one, but don’t hesitate to tag @dramatically.expatic on your Instagram stories to let me know you’ve found the symbol!
