Faeder Lake is a turquoise coloured lake with a backdrop of mountains. Never heard of it before? Well, that is probably because it is accessed from a lesser used rest area of the same name on Highway 1. Blink and may just miss it!
Located on the western side of Yoho National Park, Faeder Lake is a great place to stop and have a picnic or just relax by the lake. There are picnic benches around the lakeshore and basic washroom facilities (pit toilets) in the parking lot.
Though this rest area is right on Highway 1, I've marked it as 'off the beaten path' as it is overlooked by most visitors and vehicle drivers. For that reason, it is usually pretty quiet.
Please note that it is usually not safe to access this rest area when driving eastbound. In the other direction, westbound, there is a turning lane.
