Every first Sunday of the month, you can visit a large number of museums in Florence for free - it's not a scam, and there are no hidden fees. In most cases, booking your entrance in advance is unavailable, so be prepared to wait a little (or a lot, depending on the museum) to get inside without paying. My best tip to avoid the queues? Come early! If you come within an hour or two of the museum's opening time, you have a very good chance to get inside not only for free, but also pretty quickly! Don't forget that you still have to collect your tickets - in some cases, like in the Accademia Gallery, you will do it after entering, but in others, like the Pitti Palace, the ticket office is located outside, so you'll have to grab your free tickets first and then get into the queue for entry.

Here's the list of the museums you can visit for free every first Sunday of the month:

  • Galleria degli Uffizi

  • Galleria dell’Accademia

  • Museo delle Cappelle Medicee

  • Musei di Palazzo Pitti

  • Museo Nazionale del Bargello

  • Cenacolo di Andrea del Sarto

  • Museo Archeologico Nazionale

  • Museo di Casa Martelli

  • Museo di Orsanmichele

There are of course some other museums that you can visit for free at all times (no booking needed) that you can find among the "things to do" section of my guide. If the price is not stated, then the place is free to visit!
