This square is important because there were ponds known as "hauz," once used for washing, drinking, and socializing. They were connected by channels throughout the city but by the XIX-XX century, the situation was starting to turn rather ugly: the water became stagnant, thus a source of communicable diseases. But then the Soviets came and refilled the ponds.

Erano collegati da canali in tutta la città ma nel XIX XX secolo, la situazione stava iniziando a diventare piuttosto brutta: l'acqua è diventata stagnante, quindi fonte di malattie trasmissibili. Ma poi arrivarono i sovietivi e hanno riempito nuovamente gli stagni.
