I spent a whole day together with them discovering the Hierve El Agua waterfall among landscapes, trekking, food and Mezcal. Guide Melanie is a nice person and explains everything possible in detail. His pills, notions about botany and his curiosities were really interesting. Here is a summary of the excursion:

The journey to the mountains leading to the waterfall was a panic: a narrow and winding dirt road with holes and chasms to no end. I could notice that it is not a very developed area, so you will find many deserted areas and spectacular wilderness all along the way. Know that before arriving at the stone waterfall, you can refresh yourself with a hearty breakfast in a family-run restaurant (included)

Here, the locals have prepared: friolse ole (pasta with beans) and tortillas with eggs, avocado and tomato accompanied by chocolate (typical drink of Oaaca Something wonderful always happens: I found the best place in the world for breakfast!

The petrified waterfall of Hierve el Agua

The name Hierve el Agua in Spanish means " boiling water”, but the water is a bit cold (indeed in the middle of the pool it is slightly lukewarm). It flows out of two small artificial lakes located at the top of the hill. It is just a magical place, which after a bath and a sip of Mezcal, offers a crazy panorama.

The guide explained to us that the formations were created from freshwater springs of minerals. The thing that struck me most is that I am used to seeing the latter deposited in the same way that stalactites form in caves, but this time outside. It's a place where everything seems to be petrified

I have never seen anything like it and I am aware that Hierve El Agua in Oa O Fortunately the tour starts early, otherwise I would not have been able to enjoy to the madness this paradise that is quite crowded after 11: 00.

Swimming in the Canon Yes, you can!

Get ready because what I am about to tell you was the most beautiful experience I have ever lived in Mexico. You pass from one trekking route to another and so between cacti, breathtaking landscapes, agave fields, bridges and animals, you enter more and more in the Mexican “forest”. Thanks to this fantastic and incredible tour with friends of Co AvOte Aventuras, you have the opportunity to reach a wonderful place, unusual and frequented only by locals. 

What makes the visit to the canyon and the waterfall even more interesting is that they are quite difficult to reach. It was a great experience in contact with nature, full of suggestive colors (here the red iron was evident). Once again I daydreamed!

The delicious lunch and tasting of the Mezcal

And in order not to miss anything, lunch and tasting of Mezcal in a local restaurant are also included in the tour. The menu includes sopa de verduras, quesadillas and tlaud

Oaca I could taste a thousand qualities of Mezcal, even with 75% alcohol, really sensational. Here are some varieties: spadin, cuish,tepeate Small curiosity: if the small bowl where the distillate is poured is facing down it means that you no longer drink the mezcal.

Ho trascorso un'intera giornata insieme a loro alla scoperta della cascata di Hierve El Agua tra paesaggi, trekking, cibo e Mezcal. La guida Melanie è una persona simpatica e spiega dettagliatamente ogni cosa possibile. Sono state davvero interessanti le sue pillole, le nozioni sulla botanica e le sue curiosità. Ecco in sintesi l'escursione:

Il viaggio verso le montagne che conduce alla cascata era da panico: una stretta e tortuosa strada sterrata con buche e voragini a non finire. Ho potuto notare che non è un’area molto sviluppata, quindi troverai molte zone deserte e una spettacolare natura selvaggia lungo tutto il percorso. Sappi che prima di arrivare alla cascata di pietra, potrai rifocillarti con una ricca colazione in un ristorante a conduzione familiare (compreso nel prezzo del tour di Coyote Aventuras).

Quì, la gente del posto ha preparato: frijolse (pasta ai fagioli) e tortillas con uova, avocado e pomodoro accompagnato dalla cioccolata (bevanda tipica di Oaxaca) e il caffe. Succede sempre qualcosa di meraviglioso: ho trovato il miglior posto del mondo per la colazione!

La cascata pietrificata di Hierve el Agua

Il nome Hierve el Agua in spagnolo significa “acqua che bolle”, ma l’acqua è un po’ fredda (anzi al centro della piscina è leggermente tiepida). Fuoriesce da due piccoli laghi artificiali situati nella parte superiore della collina. Si tratta proprio di un posto magico, che dopo il bagno ed un sorso di Mezcal, offre un panorama pazzesco.

La guida ci ha spiegato che le formazioni sono state create dalle sorgenti di acqua dolce di minerali. La cosa che mi ha colpito di più è che sono abituato a vedere questi ultimi depositati nello stesso modo in cui si formano le stalattiti nelle caverne, ma questa volta all’esterno. E’ un posto dove ogni cosa sembra essersi pietrificata

Non ho mai visto nulla di simile e sono consapevole che Hierve El Agua a Oaxaca è una delle meraviglie naturali del mondo da visitare almeno una volta nella vita. Fortunatamente il tour inizia presto, altrimenti non mi sarei potuto godere alla follia questo paradiso che è abbastanza affollato dopo le 11:00.

Nuotare nel Canyon? Sì, si può!

Preparati perché quello che sto per raccontarti è stata la più bella esperienza che abbia mai vissuto in Messico. Si passa da un percorso di trekking all’altro e così tra cactus, paesaggi mozzafiato, campi di agave, ponticelli e animali, ci si inoltra sempre di più nella “foresta” messicana. Grazie a questo fantastico e incredibile tour con gli amici di Coyote Aventuras, hai la possibilità di raggiungere un luogo meraviglioso, insolito e frequentato solo dai local. 

Ciò che rende ancora più interessante la visita al canyon e alla cascata è che sono abbastanza difficili da raggiungere. E’ stata una grandissima esperienza a contatto con la natura, piena di colori suggestivi (quì il ferro rosso era evidente). Ancora una volta ho sognato ad occhi aperti!

Il delizioso pranzo e degustazione del Mezcal

E per non farti mancare nulla, nel tour sono compresi anche il pranzo e la degustazione del Mezcal in un ristorante locale. Il menu comprende sopa de verduras, quesadillas e tlayudas, che bontà!

Oxaca è campi di agave. Ho potuto assaggiare mille qualità di Mezcal, perfino con 75% di alcol, davvero sensazionale. Ecco alcune varietà: spadin, cuish, tepexate, silvestre (chiamato coyote ed è difficile da trovare) e tanti altri, compresi quelli aromatizzati al caffè. Piccola curiosità: se la piccola ciotola dove viene versato il distillato è rivolta verso il basso significa che non bevi più il mezcal.
